Salzburger Land – What to do and where to relax

There never is a boring day in the mountains as there are plenty of activities to enjoy. Salzburger Land is perfect for adventurous souls as you can explore the beautiful region by bike or foot, zip line over treetops, or paddle down white water rivers. At the end of an active day, you can unwind in one of the region’s unique hotels and rest your beaten body.

Here are five suggestions for what to do and where to relax in Salzburger Land.

Ready, set, go – Austria’s bikers paradise

No matter if you are into road biking, downhill biking, or prefer to have a relaxed tour on an e-bike – there’s something for everyone in Salzburger Land. However, Epic Bikepark Leogang is something not to miss out on. While there are exciting trails and jumps for advanced riders, beginners will also have a lot of fun in the park. Experienced guides will teach you the basics of downhill biking and you will be able to master the first trails within no time.

Below the surface – explore the local caves and mines

Surrounded by pitch black darkness, you can explore Lamprechtshöhle, the world’s biggest walkthrough cave system and learn about its formation and history. Or follow your guide through the branched hand-cut tunnel system of the show mine in Leogang as he tells about the difficult and dangerous work of the miners who extracted minerals from the rock for several centuries.

Adrenalin rush galore – shoot down a 1,600m zip line

What makes you feel more alive than adrenaline pumping through your veins? The Flying Fox XXL is one of the fastest and longest steel rope slides in the world with a height of up to 143 metres. You will fly over the valley’s treetops at a potential top speed of up to 130 km/h, wondering if this is happening for real. It is an amazing experience and probably as close as you will ever get to feeling free like a bird.

Get wet – white river rafting with a mountain backdrop

Suit up! You will appreciate the full-body neoprene as soon as you have been drenched in the chilly waters of Saalach River for the first time of many. The guys from Base Camp will make sure that the raft hits every single rapid on the way downstream, making it a wet but extremely fun experience.

Unwind and relax – a hotel for everyone

Ready for some relaxation? The hotel Salzburger Hof Leogang has a new and extensive spa area with saunas and an infinity pool overlooking the mountain panorama on both sides of the valley. After spending the day burning calories, you can enjoy their 5-course gourmet dinner and extensive breakfast buffet without feeling guilty.

Although housed in a building from 1606, Das Steinerwirt is not what you expect in a small mountain village. The hip hotel has a unique vibe to it thanks to the two passionate owners. Their attention to detail and mindset will make your stay a memorable one. As a bonus, there’s a private sauna, breakfast all day long, and a fantastic Spanish-inspired cuisine.
